You are exactly right about the RSS feed. It should be fine. But I’m willing to bet that the majority of my readers do not even know what it is.

And I have to confess that I don’t even use it, myself… for ANY website/blog. I guess I’m just retro.

Hey Joel, regarding the email update notification. In theory, that should redundant since you already provide an RSS feed of your blog. For instance, I’m notified almost immediately via BlogLines and readers with modern email clients (say, Thunderbird) can probably subscribe to your blog already with their mail client.

Some of your readers (maybe some less computer saavy family) might appreciate the notification, but that would really just be a matter of their personal usage habits rather than a shortcoming of your existing blog.
